There’s no way not to pay some visits to a comic store for a manga geek. I thought there wouldn’t be any comic store in Grenoble; however, one super huge comic store, Momie just stands in the alley!
Since my 5th year in elementary school, my “otaku factor” was awakened by Rurouni Kenshin. Basically, I never hide my passion for Japanese manga; though, I must say that I don’t like the atmosphere of the comic stores in Taiwan, they always make me feel a sense of shame, concealment and dull, especially girls, they usually walk into the store with an ashamed face, thinking that people might look down on their interest.
But the contrary, I really love to spend times in the comic store in France. It seems that there’s no such strange preconception that “otaku is disgusting, living in their own world and strange.” Whenever I’m here, I can always discover some nice-looking people dress themselves up in chic, elegant or trendy style. So different from Taiwan, manga is just simply another kind of interest, being in love with Japanese manga doesn’t equal to raunchy, there’s nothing to be ashamed of.
Last but not the least, what amazed me is that they don’t block up their comic in France, they just sold like normal books in other bookstores, maybe their national level is really higher, I haven’t seen people directly reading comic books in the store, and haven’t seen any destroyed comic book!
